Jeremy Deedes stands for re-election to the Board of the Institute of Financial Planning

Jeremy Deedes today announced his intention to stand for a second three year term as a member of the Board of the Institute of Financial Planning. He has been proposed by Board President Barry Horner and seconded by Neil Bailey who also sits on the Board.

Jeremy sought the views of a number of Board members before making the decision to stand again, offering to withdraw if anyone felt they would prefer an alternative. However, he received clear and unambiguous support for his intention, with Board members citing his passion for financial planning and the Institute, continuity and making use of his first term's experience as key reasons why he should stand for re-election.

Jeremy, a Director of Planning for Life, has over 25 years' experience in financial services and became a CFP and Fellow of the IFP in 1999. He became the first UK Kinder Institute Registered Life Planner (RLP) in 2007.

He was first elected to the Board of the IFP in October 2006 and has recently taken over the chair of the Membership Committee on which he has sat for most of his first Board term, and has served on the Conference Committee for the highly successful 2008 Celtic Manor Conference and the forthcoming 2009 Conference.

He has delivered workshops and presentations on life and financial planning to planners and consumers and published articles in both the trade and consumer press.

He now seeks re-election for a second term on the Board of the Institute and his "election manifesto" is reproduced below:

Dear Member,

You will understand that economic, regulatory and consumer pressures are forcing deep changes in retail financial services that also present once-in-a-generation opportunities. In my second term I will, if you elect me, use my best endeavors to guide the Institute through these opportunities so that we emerge as the primary profession for delivering financial services to consumers.

My approach will be to:
  • build membership and CFP numbers to give us authority, influence and independence
  • promote the CFP as the true foundation for delivering comprehensive financial plans
  • develop consumer awareness of financial planning.
The dynamic Membership Committee will remain my focus and I will work to generate a further significant increase in membership by enabling Whitefriars to:
  • provide more support to branches
  • develop and promote member benefits
  • facilitate informal networking and support between members
  • build on the success of the national and regional conferences
  • help members improve their knowledge and skills
  • set up support structures for newly qualified CFPs
  • regenerate the inclusive, collegiate character of the Institute so that it attracts, supports and retains members.
I am passionate about ensuring the Institute is the professional body of choice for all financial planners. I seek re-election to build on the valuable experience I have gained as a board member for the last three years, to provide continuity and to help the Institute seize the opportunities presented by these exciting times.

Please cast your vote for me. Thank you.
