Today, 1 June, we launch Mapmaker in response to the requests we have had for a fast, unencumbered financial planning service. Mapmaker will help you become financially well organised with a thorough understanding of your financial situation, and a clear strategic way ahead. And if you are a self help person with a long-standing intention to sort out your finances but never seem to get round to it, then just two hours with us might be all it takes to get you started on helping yourself for the rest of your life.

The concept behind Mapmaker is simple. On the one hand you have your important, profound, life goals; on the other you have your financial resources. Mapmaker is a special two hour strategic meeting with a planner who delves deeply into both, using core financial planning skills and sophisticated financial modelling to assess the degree to which your financial resources support the achievement of your life goals. If gaps are found, strategies are suggested to close the gap and action points agreed for you to implement in your own time.

Mapmaker makes use of the tried and tested processes we use for our standard financial planning services, so during a Mapmaker session you will:

• Build up a complete picture of your financial situation
• See a projected chart of your assets over their lifetimes
• Explore life and financial goals
• Work out your tolerance to risk
• Analyse your situation
• Develop strategies for achieving goals whilst avoiding running out of money during your lifetime
• Compile a list of action points for moving forward.

I already have an adviser? That’s fine. We will not interfere with or upset existing relationships.

I like to buy my own financial products? At no time will we recommend that you buy, sell or switch a specific financial product. We simply highlight where products are inappropriate to the achievement of your goals, or suggest types of products that may be more appropriate. We provide a free directory of conventional and internet services and shops to help you to arrange the changes yourself.

I don’t want to enrol in other Planning for Life services? That is the point. Your only commitment is to turn up, on time and prepared.

My financial life is a mess and I don’t know what I have got? Mapmaker will help you make sense of it all. Bring everything with you and we will help you build statements of your assets, income, expenditure and tax - a good way of kick-starting an oft put-off overhaul of your finances.
