Today the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) hosted the first North of England Financial Planning Conference at Oulton Hall near Leeds.
My involvement was substantial, including giving a presentation in the morning to my fellow planners on the benefits of providing a life planning service to a niche market known as “freeformers” - a phrase coined by Richard Duvall and Robert Alexander of Zopa (www.zopa.co.uk, a social lending internet site).
The reactions seemed very positive and I was interviewed afterwards by a journalist from New Model Adviser who was very keen on my thesis.
In the afternoon I took over as chair of the conference from Nick Cann, CEO of the Institute who had to get back to be present at the X-Factor, and chaired a panel session on life planning, which drew some interesting and useful questions from delegates.
A tiring day as well, as I am still recovering from a severe bout of flu’. Roll on our holiday in South Africa next week.
